WordCamp: Developers in Vancouver
May 5 2011 • Written By Dale Mugford • 1 Comment

Today we’re excited to be at WordCamp: Developers in Vancouver, Canada. There are some great speakers at the event, which has drawn attendees from all around the world.

How We’re Involved

We’ve been involved with organizing WordCamps in past years (WordCamp Vancouver & WordCamp Whistler), but this time we pitched in by sponsoring the event along with other great sponsors.

If You Missed It

If you missed the conference, be sure to check out the WordCamp: Developers website in the next week or so— all the sessions from both the UX and Development tracks will be posted online, for free.

WordCamp Vancouver is finally coming to a close. We’re here in Granville at the Tap Room, taking in the social. It’s been a long day again, and Duane and I will burn some midnight oil trying to put the finishing touches on WPtouch 2.0 Pro tonight and tomorrow.

What a pleasure to be a part of an event where attendees, organizers, speakers and sponsors all so elegantly carried out a tremendous conference and shared their passion for WordPress.

Thanks to organizers Rebecca Bollwitt, John Bollwitt, Duane, Kulpreet Singh, John Biehler for their work in organizing the event.

WordCamp Vancouver

Things are still up in the air, but it looks like BraveNewCode is going to be involved in organizing a big Vancouver WordPress event: WordCamp Vancouver. BraveNewCode was a prime sponsor for the last large WordCamp in British Columbia, WordCamp Whistler, and will most likely play a large part in the next iteration of WordCamp in British Columbia.

Dale spoke at WordCamp Whistler about WPtouch back in its infancy, and I spoke about mobile blogging in general down at WordCamp Portland a few months ago. Chances are that one of us will be speaking at WordCamp Vancouver, but it’s too soon to tell who it will be or what the topic will be (if it happens).

The tentative date for WordCamp Vancouver is on June 12th, 2010, and it will most likely be in downtown Vancouver. For more information, check out the official WordCamp Vancouver website, or follow WordCamp YVR on Twitter.

Latest Work: Vision Critical

Dale and I have been working pretty hard over the past few months on a pretty exciting project. Vision Critical, recently announced as the fastest growing company in British Columbia, decided to completely revamp their website and chose BraveNewCode to help with the process.

In terms of scope this was a pretty aggressive project for us. From start to finish, it took a little over two months including inception, design and development but we’re extremely happy with the end result. The new Vision Critical website is far more user friendly, both from an end-user and content creation perspective. There’s also a fairly substantial media component to the website which was a lot of fun developing.

There were a few key challenges when it came to cross-browser compatibility, as this website leaned heavily on current web tools which required some magic to pull off among the commonly difficult browsers (cough IE!), but we did indeed find a few rabbits in our hats and are proud of what we’ve delivered.

It was a great experience working with the talented team at Vision Critical, and we look forward to seeing what the next year holds for them. So on behalf of Dale and myself, a big congratulations are in order for Vision Critical. So congrats on your new website, and thanks for choosing BraveNewCode to be an integral part of your process.
