Earth Hour WordPress Plugin Release
Mar 19 2009 • Written By Dale Mugford • 1 Comment

We’ve released an Earth Hour plugin here at BraveNewCode, called the Earth Hour WordPress Plugin, and it’s available here.

What Does It Do?

The Earth Hour plugin will add a small fixed banner across the top of your site (we’re running it here on BraveNewCode) that provides a link to the Earth Hour website, counts all the sites using the plugin and participating in the event, and also provides a link for others to visit our site and learn about/download the plugin themselves for their own WordPress sites.

It will also automatically determine your timezone for Earth Hour, Saturday March 28th at 8:30pm local time, and ‘switch off’ your website, instead showing a page showing your solidarity of support for the hour, and then ‘switch on’ your site afterwards.

You can view screenshots on the earth hour plugin page, along with version details and the reasons behind our creating the plugin.

The plugin is free to all, released under the GPU General Public License.

WordTwit 1.3 Released
Jan 11 2009 • Written By Duane Storey • 8 Comments

Yes folks, after nearly seven months we have finally released a brand new version of WordTwit. We’ve tried to take care of all of the bugs that we know about, and are committed to making WordTwit a whole lot better with each subsequent release. We’ve also finally gotten around to adding WordTwit to the WordPress repository, so upgrading should be a snap in the future.

wordtwit13_2

WordTwit 1.3 represents a fairly substantial rewrite of most of the code. In particular, we’ve completely gotten rid of the dependencies on libCURL, which should make WordTwit work on almost all hosts now. We’ve also taken extra care to have it work on PHP4, so please let us know if you have any problems. In addition, we’ve also added the ability to verify your Twitter credentials and show user information in the WordTwit admininstration panel, one of the most requested features we’ve had to date. Also, TinyURLs are generated by default for all permalinks.

If you have any suggestions, please let us know. My personal goal for the next release is to have WordTwit work with multiple Twitter accounts, so stay tuned for that. To download the new version, please visit the WordTwit page. If you like WordTwit, please support the project by dropping a donation into our beer bin. Thanks for the support, and enjoy the new WordTwit!
