Creating A Custom Application for WordTwit Pro
Wordtwit Pro allows you to use a custom Twitter Application. Your posts will be tweeted on behalf of your own custom Twitter app.
To create your own Twitter app go to http://dev.twitter.com/apps and login with your Twitter username and password.
Click “Create a new application” on the right sidebar.
Name
Enter the name of your application. This is the name that appears in your tweets to indicate your tweet was via your custom app.
Description
Add a description to your application. This is the description users will see when users are facing authorization screens for your app. In this case it is the description you and other WordPress users will see when authorizing the app in WordTwit Pro.
Website
Enter the homepage URL of your website. This is where the app name in your tweets will link to.
Callback URL
For the callback URL, enter the homepage URL of your website. This is where you and other users will return after authenticating the Twitter app.
Read the terms of use and if you agree select “Yes, I agree”, fill out the captcha form and click “Create your Twitter Application”.
Once your Twitter application is created go to the Settings tab and set it as Read and Write for the Application type. You can also choose an icon and enter an Organization and website name if you wish to do so.
Important: Please double-check that the type is set to “Read and Write” after saving your changes. This step is very important to ensure that you are able to add your Twitter account(s) to WordTwit Pro using the custom Twitter app.
When you are finished adjusting the settings, click Update this Twitter application’s settings
Now, click on the Details tab and scroll down to the oAuth settings. Copy and paste the Consumer key and Consumer secret.
Paste the keys into WordTwit Pro’s Custom Application settings, under the Options pane.
Remember to save your changes and you can then proceed to authorize a Twitter account and your posts will be tweeted on behalf of your custom Twitter application.
Troubleshooting:
Accounts page refreshes when clicking “Add Account”
If your WordTwit Pro Account’s page refreshes when clicking the ‘Add Account’ button make sure that your custom Twitter app is set to “Read and Write” under its Settings tab.
Redirected to blank page after clicking “Authorize App”
If you are redirected to a blank page after clicking the “Authorize App” button it is likely that another one of your active plugins is attempting to process WordTwit Pro’s oAuth as its own.
If you are running any other plugins that authorize access to third-party websites please deactivate them while adding your Twitter account(s) to WordTwit Pro and once you’ve successfully added your Twitter account you can reactivate the plugins.
