Blip.it was originally written as a proof-of-concept for video on the iPhone. Since blip.tv offers the ability to convert videos into iPhone/iPod compatible H.264 video, we wanted to incorporate the ability to display those videos in conjunction with WPtouch. So while the Blip.it plugin will work without the WPtouch theme, and without a professional blip.tv account, the best user experience incorporates both.

Requirements
Blip.it requires at least version 2.5 of WordPress since it relies on the shortcode system. Also, to make use of the iPhone videos, you will require the WPtouch iPhone theme and a professional blip.tv account.
Usage
The format of the Blip-It shortcodes are:
[blipit id="123455"]
where the number in quotations represents the number shown in the URL for any public blip.tv video. For example, one of Duane’s videos is location at the URL: http://blip.tv/file/800792. In this case, the short-code would be:
[blipit id="800792"]
If you are using a professional blip.tv account, make sure you select the checkbox (when uploading videos) that causes the iPhone/iPod version of the video to also be created. As soon as the conversion is complete, the Blip.it plugin will automatically use the iPhone version of the video, assuming WPtouch is installed.

for some reason when i upload something it dosnt work with the plugin. it works on blip.tv but no on WP. Yours works but mine dosnt. I uploaded a regular file and one for the the ipod.
Can you send me the snippet of code you are including? Also, can you provide a hyperlink to your video?
sure, im using [blipit id="800792"]. i have the plugin installed and working because it works with the example above but not with mine. here is a link to one of my videos.

Duane, your WPtouch and Blip.it plugins are OFF THE HOOK! :D
I just added both plugins on http://theory.isthereason.com, customized the icons (.png) and made sure my blip.tv videos have mp4 versions uploaded (since I don’t have a Pro account). Everything works incredibly well on the iPhone…
But just one thing… I can’t figure out why my blip.tv shortcode shows my video thumbnail, but I can’t click-through the thumbnail to watch the video (no play arrow button). I have to click a direct .mp4 link just below (which I added) just to watch it on the iPhone. Is this due to how blip.it needs to detect an .m4v instead of .mp4 video?
Sry for my bad english.
But… can you make a plugin like this for free? But…i havnt pAypal and not enough money for this .
Hi there,
is it possible, that the 1.3.5-Update killed the Blip.it-Plugin?
I love the WPTouch plugin, and was thrilled to find a solution that incorporated video on the iPhone ? but upon upgrading to a Pro account and following your recommendations, mine doesn’t work either. Help!
Strike that. I fixed it. Working beautifully now.
hi getting the following error:
Warning: curl_setopt() [function.curl-setopt]: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or an open_basedir is set in /data/f4/content/lenwazkitchen/public/wp-content/plugins/blipit/bliptv.php on line 30
My hosting provider does NOT allow sites to run outside safe mode except for Flex mode. I have tried Flex mode, still get the same error.
Is it necessary to run outside safe mode to use blipit? is there a tweak i could make to the plugin to get around this limitation?
thanks,
waz
where do we upload this to work?
@ CHAD: Upload to your wordpress’ /wp-content/plugins folder, then activate in your WordPress admin panel.
We geeks love automation and in doing so I’m attempting to streamline my blog posts and video blog posts. i’m a user of Bliptit and a paid subscriber of bliptv pro. I wanna know if there is a way to get Blip.tv to send the [blipit id= down when it posts to my blog instead of sending off the entire flash embed. The reason being is I want to make sure you site is able to be displayed on the iphone using “WPtouch iPhone Theme”. I noticed that Blip has an Advanced Blog posting setting where you can indicate the format you want the blog post to be in but it doesnt allow for doing [blipit id= stuff.
Any ideas? I’ll be sending this over to blip.tv as well to see what they can do for me.

I get this error when I use any blipit code…
Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /var/www/culturewatch/wp-content/plugins/blipit/bliptv.php on line 18
any ideas?
Unfortunately, that means that curl is not installed on your server, and blip.it will not work. We’ll try and add support for non curl-based systems in the next release.
Hi guys.
Great plug in.
Sadly, it seems like yesterday’s upgrade from blip.tv affected your plugin (it’s redirecting and got pretty unstable).
Do you know what can be done to solve this issue?
Regards,
We’ll look into the changes, and release an update asap.
I have gotten the blip.it plugin to work on my site and on the iPhone with WPTouch, but I want to change the dimensions of the embedded file on the site.
Is there a way to change the dimensions using the blip.it shortcodes?
I was wondering if its possible to include a feature that grabs the description and thumbnail of the video we call? If this isnt possible can you point me in the right direction to research this. I’m kinda lost. thanks
ian
it’s not working when bliptv embed code is attached there is file id and play id is different of the single video
I uploaded an mp4 additional format to blip earlier today. But when I try to view it on my iPod all I get is the thumbnail and I can’t click on it. Is there a reason for this? Does the mp4 have to be the primary file type? Thanks in advance.
@Ian: i know i am replying to myself but i think i found the solution. i changed the ‘m4v’ code to ‘mp4′ in the plugin php file. adobe premiere elements doesnt seem to have the ability to export to m4v so i had to change it to mp4. Any one know the best frame size to use?
I’m looking for a way to implement a “switch to lower resolution button” or a drop down menu like on the blip.tv site. is this something that is feasible with this plugin?
Maybe I’m missing something. (Probably!) I want to show a high-res version of a blip.tv video to those viewing my site from a computer, and the blip.it/low-res version to those on iPhones/mobiles.
If I use the blip.it shortcode in my posts, only the low-res version shows up.
Does anyone know of any way around this? Thanks!!
Unfortunately our other plugins have taken priority over some of our old ones such as blip.it. Right now there are no plans to update it further, so only the current behavior is supported.
@Michelle: BlipIt shows the Flash version to regular browser viewers, ie non-iPhone viewers. To do what you want (I think), you need to upload a high-res Flash version as your primary file at Blip.tv.
I’m guessing the high-res file you’re uploading is probably a QuickTime or M4v or MP4 file.
A note on this: you can make BlipIt show a different iPhone friendly format than m4v (such as .mov or .mp4) by going through the BlipIt PHP file and changing all instances of .m4v to .mp4 or whatever format you want.
As long as you’ve uploaded ONE version of the video with that extension to Blip, BlipIt should pick that file for iPhones. Can clarify if you want – go to garagenight.tv and get in touch with me via there.
@Michelle:
Not sure if this will help you but i posted a solution on BNC forum
http://support.bravenewcode.com/topic/blipit-showplayer-updated
I messed with the code enough to change the showplayer and with that you can set a parameter called preferredRole – which you can call the low res or HD version of your videos.
This worked for me, hope it works for you.
good luck
Hi,
is there any chance to use this player to play the files hosted on my server?
I need any web player for my iphone website.
Thanks
