I think $29 is perfectly reasonable for such a high quality plug-in. I use the 1.9.1.3 version on my own website (http://www.tapforms.com) and I think it’s fantastic. I’m definitely going to upgrade to 2.0 when it’s available. Might even try out the beta too.
I think it’s great that you can produce such a high quality plug-in and earn some money back for all your hard work.
I think it would have been better if Apple would have set a minimum price a little higher than $0.99 for App Store apps. It’s unfortunately set the expectations for people that all software should be $0.99 or free no matter what platform it’s designed for or how much work went into the product. Not every app can make it on volume. Some apps/plug-ins/themes like this have a much lower volume of sales. Well, I’m just guessing on that. I’m sure there are a ton of mobile sites using this theme. More power to you then!
Thanks!

I like the 1.x series. Will it continue to be worked on, at least security patches, or will it be abandoned for 2.0? If buying 2.0 funds further updates for 1.0 for those who can’t afford $29 right now, then I’m happy about it. Otherwise, it’s disappointing.
I think one could easily have tiered pricing based on what type of site it’s being used for. For example, if my local humane society wanted to have a blog that worked well on mobile devices, a cheap (perhaps free, given away on a case by case basis) license for them would be nice.

Hi Tom,
WPtouch 1.9.x will indeed be worked on. In fact, we have a release today with some fixes, and added the ability to customize the footer message. Additionally, we plan on releasing a 2.0 free version down the road, too.
It’s easy to propose different business models and pricing plans when you’re not the one doing the work. We think the pricing for WPtouch Pro is appropriate, even aggressive, when you consider it against most other paid plugins for WordPress, or other mobile solutions that work similarly to WPtouch.
If the local Humane Society needs a mobile theme, we have a great free version available. WPtouch Pro is meant for those who need more out of their mobile presentation.
We have funded the 3+ months of development for it out of pocket, and literally have our company on the line for WPtouch Pro. We’re not out to be millionaires. We’re just out to make a living doing what we do. We’re big believers in open-source software being free, but not if its at the expense of livelihood or the quality of that software.
