i’m going to buy it most likely… but 29 bucks? that’s really steep.

Steep compared to what? We looked around at other premium plugins, and premium mobile plugins, and thought $29 was a really competitive price.

@dale:
i bought my iphone a few weeks ago and love it. i’ve only bought 1 app from the app store and that was the hipstamatic for 2 bucks. i bought some other add-ons for 99 cents each. for 6 bucks, i have a retro toy camera on my phone and it’s really fun, well worth every penny and more. i’d pay $50 for the hipstamatic in a hear beat.
29 bucks for a mobile phone theme? hmmm…. the price makes me think twice about how much i want it. the more i think about it, the vanilla free version ain’t so bad after all.
i wish you the best of luck and wish you much success with 2.0.
@rob: you seriously need to take a chill pill.

Well, one thing you have to remember is that when you buy a $5 app from the app store, you’re the only person who benefits from it. If you put a mobile theme on your site, then potentially hundreds if not thousands of people (depending on your traffic) benefit from it. Also, WPtouch Pro isn’t just a mobile theme, it’s a mobile theme framework that comes with a Skeleton theme which can be customized, along with several other themes, one of which is Classic (and most themes also have several skins to further customize the look and feel). As we continue updating WPtouch 2.0, we’ll be adding additional themes.
Ultimately everyone has to make their own decision, but I don’t think comparing WPtouch to an app in the application store is a fair comparison. But thanks for your best wishes all the same – we’re very happy with final product!

After experimenting with all the available options for creating a mobile version of my WordPress blog, i’ve had second thoughts about the value of WPtouch 2.0. I believe that that WPtouch is far and away the BEST way to go. I’ve been working with the free version and i can only imagine what features you’ll have for customizing into 2.0. I would say that 29 bucks is a reasonable price for a plugin that will save many many hours of time. Thanks for all your hard work, you guys. I would happily recommend WPtouch 2.0 to all my friends.

Thanks so much Katrina! Great to hear.
rob
29 is a STEAL. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise guys, thank you so much for making this available, and for an unbelievable value.
I for one appreciate the hard work you’ve put into this and the ability to offer clients a quick and awesome solution for their mobile sites.
Katrina seems to be from the EVERYTHING FREE mindset that that tramples on the rights and way of life of those who create IP, such as music, film, writing (look what free has done to journalism), art and applications, such as WPtouch.
So here’s a big F U to everyone who doesn’t want to pay for IP, especially when it’s this awesome.
We’re using it on austinpsychfest.com and theblackangels.com, with WPtouch functioning as the mobile solution for Flash sites that use WordPress as the CMS.
Here’s a question for ya: what Ecommerce WordPress plugin / solution would you recommend using with WPtouch Pro / 2 ? We’re looking to revamp out stores and have them get their data from a store running in WordPress, so that we can have a mobile store and Flash store that is updated from one data set. So I’m researching the best solution to start with before I take the dive into creating a Flash front-end for it. I think I’m going to wait a bit to see what WP3 brings.
Really excited to implement this with the upcoming WordPress 3 release on an upcoming project!
Thanks to everyone at BraveNewCode!

Thanks Rob. Everyone’s entitled to decide what they will about paying for anything, really. We just want to respond to those who seem to think it’s expensive.
We realize that, due to the popularity of WPtouch, we may be introducing a lot of people to the fact that there are paid plugins for WordPress at all.
As for E-Commerce, we’ve used Shopp (use on this site, too) and will likely have support for it with 2.0.
You decision to wait for what 3.0 brings is likely wise.
rob
I’ll look further into Shopp, thanks for the reference. I’ll let you know how it goes.
You’re right, people do have a choice, I guess I’m just a little bummed that people, especially the younger generation who grew up with Napster etc., seem to think that everything should be free when it comes to IP. Katrina may or may not belong to that mindset, but her comment seems indicative of it, and I for one would pay more than 29 bucks.
As the creator of any IP you have to set a value and elevate the status of what you create – because no one else will!
I plan on purchasing the developer package, and will be putting it to extensive use!
dave
what about the wordpress mobile pack will it be supported, will it work with the new version and if not will the WPtouch kind of take over for that plugin? I got like 50 sites so i will have to do the big deal haha
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
Yes, WordPress mobile pack can work alongside WPtouch 2, no worries.
WPtouch may offer solutions that cover most phones down the road, but we’re focused on touch smartphones still.

29 is not steep at all – I will buy it the day it gets out! You really should consider pre-orders for access to beta :D
Example (RFC 2606)

Out of curiosity, will 1.9.x work in WP 3.0?
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
Yep!

Hi, looks great, can’t wait to buy. $29 I think is a resonable price. Would that cover me ad well for sub domains?
Eta?
Mark
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
technically, no. You could install it on other domains w=once purchased, but they won’t be eligible for auto-upgrades and support. ETA? Stop by the product page today.
peter.pavlovic
Bought! Done! License key received! Now – just to figure out how to install it over my old version and not lose settings (ad IDs etc.) – why I can’t I upgrade from within WP dashboard? That would be great.
Looking forward to seeing it in action…

Great Peter, enjoy!
WPtouch 2.0 is fundamentally different than WPtouch 1.9.x, so its settings are completely different and don’t reuse the existing WPtouch 1.9.x settings.
Also, since WPtouch 1.9.x is hosted on the WordPress.org repository, and WPtouch 2.0 is hosted somewhere else, you currently can’t upgrade from WPtouch 1.9.x to 2.0. That said, 2.x supports auto-upgrade if you have a valid upgrade license (which you do), so future updates should be automatic from within WPtouch 2.0.
peter.pavlovic
…and the installation instructions? readme file? or do I just copy over? file permissions?
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
Installation instructions are available at http://www.BraveNewCode.com/docs/. Did you get your license e-mail? There’s some links and directions in it. Further discussion should be had on BraveNewCode.com/support (that way everyone benefits from the answers).

What is the compatibility with the DISQUS?
With version 1.9 I’m having troubles.
Dale Mugford

Disqus and Intense Debate support are coming shortly for 2.0. We wanted to make sure all the other important tidbits were in place first.
Roger Lovato

Ok.. I already bought the beta version. I’ll have rights to upgrade to the final version?
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
Hi Roger, we sent you an email- you purchased the full version. We just haven’t announced it yet.
Pedro Candeias
Is there a demo online?
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
We’ll have a demo available soon, Pedro. Trying to take care of a few other things before we can get to setting one up.

At first, the price looked steep, but after loading this site on my iPhone, it supports threaded comments, which the old version didn’t have. Since I depend on threaded comments, I dive in and paid the $29 and overall, it’s worth it since it looks great. Probably the best full featured mobile plugin made for the iPhone/iPod/Android.
Dale Mugford
BNC Design Guru
Awesome, thanks James! Lots more to come, too!
