Hi Phil, we hear ya. WordTwit relies on twitter, Bit.ly, Tiny.url, etc to work. Sometimes the services themselves fail WordTwit, and they don't provide feedback as to why. Right now we just fail out the tweet. In the future we're hoping to release a version which provides some real-time feedback for you to determine what happens if the tweet isn't posted. In the meantime, hang in there. It's rare that these problems persist continuously, but if they are for you please file a bug report in our forums and we can look into it for you.

I have never once had WordTwit actually tweet something for me and I can’t figure out for the life of me why it doesn’t work. I apparently have everything set up right, it knows what it’s associated with and everything.. so it doesn’t make any sense to me. So I noticed this feature and I thought “Great! Now I can just force tweets!” Nope. Isn’t tweeting. What the hell is going on? There’s no reason for it to not be working!! I’m super confused and frustrated.

Hi.

I just started using WordTwit and I like it alot!
One small thing though, when I publish a post it sends out two tweets.
One with the local setting and one with the tiny.url setting. I don’t know why this is, and I can’t seem to find a way to undo this. Any help would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to add a check box in the management pane that gives us the option of sending a tweet about it?

For example, a general setting either to tweet or not to tweet all new posts, and then a check box in the compose window to override the setting?

Oh, and one other unrelated bug I forgot to mention:

If you update an old story that hasn’t been tweeted, it won’t tweet but it will create a short URL in the database that will never be used.

You can actually end up with several zero-count duplicates because of this.

I’m guessing it’s erroneously creating a short URL for the preview then wasting it. A dummy URL would be just as good for the preview.

I even see a few long URLs listed in the format “http://sartastic.com/?p=1733″, which is strange. I use fancy permalinks and never post in that format.

I have about 60 or 70 of them in the table so far.

It looks completely dead.

Before I tried deleting and re-installing from a fresh download, I tried deleting all WordTwit_% entries from the settings database.

No difference. It simply wrote the default settings back, and refused to write any real updates.

I uninstalled, deleted the settings, and re-installed WordTwit from a fresh download. It is still stuck on the default settings.

All this has suddenly happened without having installed any new plugins recently.

I suddenly started experiencing the same thing. It was working fine. It reset settings once in the past, but they stayed when I updated them. Now every time I update them, they disappear immediately.

The local format short URL functionality remains even with the reset settings.

I can see in the database that my changes are not being written. Furthermore, if I manually update the settings (WordTwit_settings) in any way, then refresh the WordTwit settings page, my changes are reset. That indicates that it’s not just being locked out of the database but, instead, is stuck in a mode where it can’t write new settings but rewrites the defaults settings each time you enter the page.

Thanks for the quick response, hadn’t noticed it… in any case I have tried deleting the plugin entirely on numerous occasions, however that doesn’t seem to resolve the issue…

Thanks Duane. I could reproduce the problem twice: Post enters “Published” state as scheduled but the tweet does not get posted. After logging in the tweet goes out. I am using WordtTwit 2.3.1 with WP 2.9.1.

We’ll have to look into that. Some people report problems with scheduled tweets, and then they say it’s working fine after all. The tweet is *supposed* to only go out when the post enters the “Published” state, not when it’s saved as a draft.

This is a great plugin! I have a question: Scheduled posts generate a tweet as soon as I have logged in again; the tweet is not posted when the post is published.

Did you try deleting the plugin and re-installing? After that, try clicking the ‘reset settings’ button in the WordTwit admin and then set things up and save. These issues sometimes crop up and they’re weird and tough to isolate.

I’m having a little issue, whenever I go into the settings and… well, set things… all the settings revert to default right away.

i.e. I input my twitter info, update options, post something on the blog, go back to the WordTwit management/admin area and my twitter settings are all gone :(
