WPtouch 1.5 Released

by Duane Storey ~ Nov 10 / 2008

We’ve just done another minor update to WPtouch based on some feedback from users. The full list of changes are as follows:

  • Added support for WordPress image galleries
  • Added support for single post page split navigation
  • Fixed admin footer links which did not locate WordPress install correctly
  • Added basic Google Android support
  • Changes in WPtouch admin appearance and styling
  • Added donate message in WPtouch admin
  • WPtouch now supports WordPress 2.3 or higher

Feel free to head on over to the WPtouch page to download a new version, or use the auto-update mechanism in WordPress. As always, we’d love to hear feedback from our users, and will continue to add new features and functionality going forward.

  1. I just noticed that when saving a web clip, it automatically composes it. Well, I am using a precomposed image. It would be nice to have a setting to switch between the two different types of clips.

Do you mean the bookmark icon? If so, it’s set to be automatically the header icon. Not sure why you’d want two different logos…

  3. There is two different options for specifying an apple touch icon;
    apple-touch-icon
    apple-touch-icon-precomposed

The normal option rounds the corners of the specified image and adds the top gradient. No rendering will be done when the pre-composed option is specified. This is good for icons using white, as a gradient added will make the icon hard to see.

The WPtouch plugin does not allow us to specify which one we want… and automatically composes the image.

  4. Or you could just force us to pre-compose our images… that way you would have the same appearance in your apps header as the image saved when you click “add to home screen” in safari.

  5. I also noticed that inserting images with large dimensions inserted into a post will cause the app to add padding to the background on the right side, though the image is scaled appropriately by the plugin.

Check it out. It is a possibility that it has to do with my theme. I am still new to wordpress… my theme is a “work in progress”.

@ Keil: it’s impossible to please all the requests that are made for us and WPtouch. We do our best to incorporate them though, in the order of which we feel will please the majority of users first, and then, if we feel it’s a fit, work to please the smaller voices of our user base.

In this case, I’d recommend just changing the style option for yourself. Edit the theme header.php file and make your necessary mod.

Regarding post images, they don’t scale to horizontal orientation of the phone/ipod, but vertical only.

If you rotate on a post image you’ll see what I mean. It’s a CSS limitation, and we didn’t feel like adding a whack of javascript just to auto-detect orientation at this time. That’s a bit of candy we’ll throw in later.

WPtouch: Could anyone find an option for “categories listed” ?

    Like you use:
Automatic Archives page layout (if you have or create a page called ?Archives?)

Is a same function for Categories not implemented yet ?

  8. I wrote a post about your great plugin. All the essential customization options are there to ease the deployment of an iPhone-compatible blog. I am now working on replacing the date next to the article with a thumbnail. Again: Great job!

  9. Thanks for WPtouch, it shows my blog on iPhone in a really nice way. My post on this.
