Notes On WPtouch 2.0: It Will Still Be Free, And Open Source
Aug 30 2008 • Written By Dale Mugford • 8 Comments

We originally thought we’d offer WPtouch 2.0 for sale, as a means by which we could justify the continued development time we’d like to invest in it, and protect it from being stolen and re-sold by others.

We would have offered it at a small fee, and that fee would have meant lifetime upgrades for anyone who purchased it.

But over the past month we’ve been in talks with others about the idea, and have decided that we’d prefer it to remain open source and above all free to everyone.

We will of course accept and hope for donations- you’d be surprised how much a small donation helps encourage us to keep actively working on the project.

We still have big plans for WPtouch, including localization, themes, AdSense support and wider plugin compatibilty.

We’ve been busy with client projects the last little while so we don’t have any news as of yet when the 2.0 version will be released. As we get closer to launch we’ll likely have a beta we’ll need tested, so if you’re interested in either working with us on themes or localization, please drop us a line.

We’ll continue in the mean time to improve the 1.x branch of WPtouch, with the menu issues addressed in the previous post our top priority.

    Excellent news!

Thanks for all your hard work. I’ll buy you guys a beer sometime… :-)

  2. Will you have a donate link when WPtouch 2.0 is released? Also, perhaps give a shout out to those that do donate money.

Yes and yes, Jason. We have a donate link on the WPtouch page right now and will be adding one to the admin panel as well. We will publish a list of donors, to be sure.

  4. Thanks guys for the cool wordpress plug-in. A helpful feature would to be able to display categories in a list.

    Keep up the good work!

The short answer is yes. But might I ask why you would want to? Right now it automatically displays properly for the iPhone / iPod Touch. What behaviour is it that you want to change with that regards?
