iPhone 2.0 Jailbreak Released by Dev Team

If you own an iPhone and are at least somewhat familiar with the jailbreaking/unlocking community then you’d have to have been living under a rock not to find out that the iPhone’s 2.0 software has been jail-broken, and the public release of the PwnageTool 2.0 came today.
As for my personal opinion on jailbreaking and unlocking, hells yeah. Cellphones should not be locked to providers preventing fair competition in the market, and the lockdown that Apple has employed while providing improved security, prevented creativity and imagination from flooding the platform with possibilities (somewhat abated by the App store).
But the App Store found in the iTunes store only exists the way it does because a) Apple saw the enormous demand among both the developer and consumer communities to have native 3rd party apps on the iPhone and iPod touch; and b) Because the jail-breaking community paved the way and showed Apple just how much demand there was for Apps, and the possible revenue that could be earned through it.
No doubt there will be a few million downloads in the next 24-48 hours by those who want the best of both worlds- Apple’s App Store and the original 3rd party apps that started this all.
I think I’ll sit back and wait a little while for the ‘outsider’ community to gain its bearings on the new software.
